Most women know that dark undereye circles are something to deal with on a daily basis. Does this sound like anyone you know? You get a great nights sleep, with the recommended 8 hours horizontal under the sheets, you shuffle off the the bathroom, look in the mirror and the face staring back at you looks like it belongs on a woman who has been awake all night.
So what causes the dark undereye circles? Well there could be a couple things causing them. For one thing they may be hereditary. so you can thank your mom for yours. According to Rebecca Kazin, M.D., a Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery dematologist, in Washington DC, "Some people, especially those who have olive or darker complexions, just genetically have dark circles under their eyes".
Other factors that may cause dark undereye circles are allergies, and your diet. When you rub your eyes, if they are itchy, or watery, it causes the skin to actually begin to look darker.
Your diet can also be a factor as poor nutrition, or crash dieting, can cause your face to lose volume and make the dark circles more pronounced.
Prevention
Unfortunately, if the dark circles are caused by hereditary, there is no way to prevent them. However, you can take steps in your younger years to practice healthy lifestyle choices. Regular use of sun protection, which will protect the thin skin under your eyes. Also avoid smoking, as that can also contribute to the dark circles.
Treatment
Use eye creams especially created for the undereye area. It is a very sensitive area of your body, so you don't want to use heavy, body lotions under your eye. My favorite eye cream helps awake your eyes with a polypeptide-infused eye cream, and contains an exclusive illuminating complex. You will notice a decrease in the appearance of under-eye puffiness which will reveal brighter, more alert eyes. Check it out here: AGE DEFYING EYE CREAM
