Take A Snooze!

Studies show that taking a power nap can help you recharge and reduce stress.  The key is to make sure your nap doesn't last for more than a half hour.  The reason?  After 30 minutes, your body enters the deep stages of sleep, and studies show that if you wake up right before you get to the deep sleep stage, you will feel more refreshed.

Are You Active or Busy?

Being active is not the same as being busy.  Just because you are busy doesn’t mean that you are active.  Active means being in constant motion. To maximize calorie burn, you can’t just go for a run, or hit a gym class then rest on your butt for the remainder of the day. Have a goal to be active all day, everyday.

Snack Time!

One of the biggest hurdles during your weight loss journey, is being hungry.  The easiest way to conquer the munchies is to have low calorie snacks on hand to combat those hunger pains.   A few easy, healthy choices are baby carrots, apple slices, almonds, or my favorite....popcorn.  Always have a few snacks in baggies and carry them with you so you can skip the the drive thru and their menu of non healthy choices.

5 Benefits of Vitamin C

Most people know that Vitamin C is important, but still don't make it an essential part of their daily supplement consumption.   Here are 5 reasons why you should make sure this is one supplement that you add to your daily routine.

1.  Helps treat common cold symptoms.
One of the best tips I ever received regarding Vitamin C came from my nutritionist. My doctor told me that if you feel like you are getting a cold, take 2000 mg of Vitamin C, then take 1000 mg every hour.  A cold should not last more than 24-48 hours. Vitamin C is a natural antihistamine, and can help control allergy symptoms by reducing the histamine levels in the body.

2.  Collagen, is a protein found in the connective tissues of the body, like skin, tendons, muscles, and ligaments, and requires Vitamin C for production.  Vitamin C is extremely helpful in speeding up the healing of wounds from minor cuts to deep wounds, burns and broken bones.

3.  Vitamin C has an excellent antioxidant property, and helps reduce free radicals that may cause heart disease and strokes.  Vitamin C also helps lower cholesterol and improve blood flow which also helps in preventing heart disease.

4.  Vitamin C helps to regulate the sugar levels in people with diabetes.

5.  Vitamin C can help prevent against the ill effects of stress, by protecting the nervous system and brain. Optimum levels of Vitamin C are required for the synthesis of adrenaline and nor-adrenaline, both of which play a role in the fight or flight mechanism of combating stress.

The daily recommendation of Vitamin C is different for all age groups (Adult men: 90 mg, Adult women: 75 mg, children between 9-13 years: 45 mg).

There are several sources like oranges, chilly peppers, papaya, strawberries, cauliflower, and pineapple to add Vitamin C to your daily diet.  A medium sized orange contains about 75 mg of vitamin C, with larger oranges containing as much as 100 mg.

For a Vitamin C supplement that provides 24 hour support, protects your stomach by utilizing 3 forms of Vitamin C, and provides the equivalent of 5 cups of orange juice, try C-Lyte today.

What Are Your Weight Loss Expectations?

One of the biggest reasons weight loss programs fail is that the weight doesn't come off fast enough and people give up.  I don't like to use the word realistic, but understand that everyone loses weight at different speeds.  When you set goals that just set you up for failure, like a goal of losing 20 pounds in a month, you will feel defeated and give up.  Think smaller, more attainable goals in the beginning like scheduling 2 or 3 days at the gym, adding more fruits/vegetables daily, or even limiting your soda consumption. There are a lot of ways to work towards a healthier you.   Remember it took a while to gain the weight, so it will take a while to lose it as well.

Why Cleanse?

A lot of people know that cleansing is good for you. But cleansing actually provides multiple benefits for your body.  My favorite cleanse, called Cleanse For Life, is a synergistic blend of natural cleansing herbs & antioxidant-rich botanicals to help support detoxification, also contains powerful antioxidants like bilberry, blueberry and raspberry that nourish and protect your body from free radicals. Cleansing also helps eliminate stubborn fat and supports your metabolism while supporting your body’s ability to eliminate toxins and impurities.  Cleanse for Life is a perfect daily addition, and a great foundation to 1-day/week or 2-day biweekly Deep Cleansing programs.

Serve "Restaurant" Style

Try something new at dinner tonight.  Instead of serving up the main course, vegetables, breadbasket, and salad bowl right on the dinner table, leave all the food in the kitchen on the counter, away from easy reach.  This is important because when you have cleaned your plate it forces you to take a moment and decide if you really want that second helping.  Also once you decide that you do want a second helping, you now have to decide if you want to get up to get it.  In the long run, having leaving the food in the kitchen will make it easier and easier to skip that extra helping!
